Why We Sell What We Sell

We sell various used scooters and new Chinese-made TaoTao scooters, as opposed to Italian-made Vespas or Japanese-made Hondas for three reasons:

1)  Price:  Growing up, the scooters I road were absolute garbage and yet somehow they always started. They would resell for $50-350. Highend would be $1000.

I walked into a Colorado Springs Scooter store that I'd driven past a few times and I said, "I want a cheap scooter, I don't want to have to get a motorcycle license, and I'd like to spend under $1,000." They had nothing. The ones I liked started at $2,500, but after add-ons and taxes, I'd spend $3,300. I knew I could buy a cool looking BMW on Craigslist for $5,000-6,000. I wasn't going to pay $3,300 for a scooter. It just wasn't going to happen.

I looked up Craigslist Scooters and I found a TaoTao up in Denver at the right price, but I had to drive to north Denver, Henderson, CO. I couldn't find a cheap scooter in Colorado Springs. When I get Henderson, CO I still didn't know where to go. Then, I saw a huge parking lot with tons of traffic and cars. I thought, "I hope it is not there." I called the guy, and he said, "Yeah, we are inside the Flea Market." Oh no, I thought.

After two and a half hours at the Denver Flea Market, I finally got out of there. The price was right and the scooter was cool, but I had to go to Denver, battle traffic, battle crowds, wait literally 30-minutes for my credit card to process, stuff the scooter in my Expedition (where it got dinged) and then drive home in the smell of gasoline, with my wife.

But, ultimately, I like my scooter's price and I liked the look.

2)  Look: I have nothing against sporty scooters, but there is something about the word "scooter" that says "old-school" to me and reeks of style.  Maybe it is the popularity of the Vespa, and images of babe-o-licious Italian women, dressed to the "nines," cruising through tight, winding streets. Maybe it is some subconscious image of Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn scooting through Rome or Venice or something. Whatever planted the seed, I know one thing:  look matters when it comes to scooters.

I wanted a retro scooter. Period.

3)  Performance:  All new 50cc scooters max at about 35-40 mph.  Two-stroke scooters get-up-and-go better than four-strokes, but many companies stopped making them in 2011.  So, more than likely, you will be left with a 50cc, four-stroke scooter. If that is case, then reliability, price and look seem to mean the most when it comes to decision-making.

Finding a good repairman is key. We sell and repair our chinese-made scooters.

If you are on flat-land, like downtown Colorado Springs or Denver, then you will be happy with your four-stroke, 50cc scooter, but if you are battling hills like I was in the Northwest Colorado Springs, then you'll want a 70cc or 100cc big bore kit.  We have the best prices in town for boring out your scooter. We will even drive to your home as a service call. Big bore kits improve the power and speed of your scooter significantly.
